Spotify to launch standalone app for Apple Watch, beta version being tested

Google Play Music and YouTube Music are not a real threat (yet) for Spotify. A nice little hardware hook to sell you on a service or bit of software. The master account holder for any Spotify Premium for Family plan in the United States has until December 31st to claim a brand new Home Mini for absolutely nothing.

The company cut its forecast for fourth-quarter gross margin by 50 basis points due to the Google Home partnership. Devices must be redeemed through the Spotify Family portal before the 15th of January, 2019.

We'll keep an eye on the promotions page to see if anything turns up about users who subscribe only for one month claiming a Google Home Mini. This was attributed to Spotify's new family and student plans, which brings in more users, but not for more fees.

Before this beta, Apple Watch users came close to getting Spotify access through a third-party app called Snowy, created when developer Andrew Chang got exhausted of waiting for Spotify to release their own official app.
