Blackburn, who will become the first female US senator in Tennessee history after projections showed she will defeat Democratic former Gov. Phil Bredesen, was scorned by Swift last month when the pop star announced she would be supporting Bredesen.

Marsha Blackburn, a Republican congresswoman, was elected to the U.S. Senate on Tuesday night.

Blackburn thanked Trump and Pence in her victory speech and said she will be a leader who will "work with the president and keep this nation on the path to prosperity that we are on today". Blackburn defeated former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen in a hotly contested race that was viewed by many analysts to be a toss-up heading into election day. "Marsha Blackburn wants it to be a national referendum on Trump and Bredesen wants to deal with local Tennessee issues and solving problems". It was one of the rare Senate races where Democrats had hoped for a pickup as the GOP threatened to expand its majority in the chamber.

The race made headlines in the entertainment world last month, when pop singer Taylor Swift endorsed Bredesen, but speculation of a "Taylor Swift" effect that would motivate young voters to tip the race to the Democrat appeared unfounded. The president's son Eric Trump, and U.S. Sens.

"Unfortunately for Phil Bredesen, he's not going to be able to just shake it off. Congratulations, Senator-elect Blackburn!"

Afterward though, she managed to consolidate support across the GOP's various political circles, including from former U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher, who briefly opposed her in the primary and called for Corker to run again upon dropping out of the race. Bredesen's moderate stances, he predicted, would give these voters an easy excuse not to vote for her. Blackburn's campaign, meanwhile, shelled out about $12 million through mid-October, and outside groups some $31.6 million for her bid.
