Saints excited to welcome Dez Bryant

By moving Bryant from the X-receiver position - the receiver who lines up on the line of scrimmage - the Saints will prevent teams from pressing him. The best free-agent wide receiver is finally off the market, and he's heading to a Saints team that doesn't need him to be anything more than what he is at 30 years old. From the people who love this game, who've played, they can understand that about it being somewhat harder for other people to figure that out.

Last season with Dallas, Bryant caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns. He recorded three straight seasons of at least 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns from 2012 to 2014, and he earned Pro Bowl invites in 2013, 2014 and 2016.

"I'm happy for Dez, happy he has an opportunity to go play and finish the right way", Garrett said.

NFL Media notes that Bryant will wear No. 88 in New Orleans and report to the team's facility on Thursday after spending Wednesday in Dallas with his son.

The Saints will play at the Cowboys on November 29. Dez was a great player in this organization for a long time. "I know it's important to him". He's done such a great job for this organization and been an impact player in this league over the course of his eight years playing. Take the stuff that he's really good at, and then integrate him in the offense accordingly. "I know he'll help their team".

Heading into Week 10, the Saints are second in the league in scoring at 34.9 points per game, eighth in third-down conversion percentage at 44.5% and sixth in red-zone scoring percentage (touchdowns) at 71.0%. He's not much of a downfield threat and had trouble beating press man coverage in 2017. We have yet to mention Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram or the league's best offensive line, which now resides in New Orleans.

The Saints also worked out veteran receivers Brandon Marshall and Kamar Aiken on Tuesday before making the deal with Bryant.

Just last month, Bryant let it be known he would rather play for the Cowboys again than anywhere else.
