All Eyes on Florida's Gubernatorial Race: Will Florida Go Blue?

Republican Ron DeSantis will defeat Democrat Andrew Gillum in the battle to be Florida's next governor, Fox News projects.

Some results of the US midterm elections have come in and quite a number of black people have won different seats.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump rallied support for DeSantis this past week in Fort Myers and Pensacola, telling voters they had a choice "between greatness and gridlock".

DeSantis called Gillum a formidable opponent. The former GOP congressman spent weeks explaining the remark, maintaining it had nothing to do with race, but rather his belief that Gillum would hurt Florida's economy.

He was joined at two of the rallies by Lara Trump, a daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump. "We didn't win this transaction", Gillum said, adding that "what we believe in still holds true today".

"You should have a governor who can work constructively with the administration in Washington to make sure Florida is getting what it needs", DeSantis said.

Republicans also scored a major victory in Ohio's governor race, where Mike DeWine, the state attorney general, defeated Democrat Richard Cordray, who served as the first director of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. That changed in the final week, when Trump helped drive out Republican supporters. "We can still pull this off", radio personality Tom Joyner told a crowd of students and supporters, many of whom were clad in blue T-shirts emblazoned with Gillum's name.

He was a member of the House for a number of years and indeed a member of the leadership considered one of the most promising young politicians in the state. "Republicans had a very strong candidate Adam Putnam, who is in the primary against DeSantis..."

Asked what it would mean for the state if he wins, Gillum said: 'Us winning tonight I think will send a message to Mr. Trump and Mr. DeSantis as well that the politics of hatred and of division and of separation, that they come to an end, at least in this election, that's what we're going to show. Attacking Gillum during an appearance on Fox News, DeSantis, referring to successes in Florida achieved by Scott, said "the last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases, and bankrupting the state". "I am not going to let the media smear me", DeSantis said. He said health care is a priority for him because of a pre-existing medical condition.
