Gaza rocket hits Israeli city, prompting Israeli air strikes in retaliation

It was the first rocket to hit an Israeli home since the 2014 summer conflict between Israel and Gaza's militant Hamas rulers.

One 25-year-old Palestinian militant was killed and three others were wounded in the Gaza strikes. In August, a rocket from Gaza landed near the city amid a serious escalation in hostilities.

A week ago, Israel also announced it was willing to to issue entry permits for 5,000 merchants from Gaza for business purposes, while Qatar would be allowed to pay the salaries of civil servants in Gaza and to finance humanitarian projects in the poverty-stricken enclave.

Israeli cabinet ministers have amplified calls for a "strong blow" against ruling party Hamas in the blockaded Gaza Strip in recent days, up to and including the possibility of all-out war.

On a related note, FOX News continues to misreport the staging of Hamas's recurring assaults on Israel as a "protest" against "the Israeli blockade" - the blockade that is meant to prevent terrorists from obtaining the tools of their trade.

Gaza health officials said seven Palestinians were killed when Israeli troops opened fire on a group that broke through the fence.

Hardliners Lieberman and Bennett have competed since late September over who might deliver the harshest statements on Israel's military action in Gaza, after Bennett claimed the Israeli response to the protests had been too weak. The blockade has restricted Hamas' ability to govern and made life extremely hard for Gaza's 2 million residents.

Dodgers next up for Brewers' lights-out 'pen
It was the shortest postseason start of Kershaw's career. "He knows what he needs to do to win games and that's all that matters". But he later threw four scoreless innings with the Dodgers, allowing only one baserunner while striking out seven batters.

Last week, some 14,000 Palestinians thronged to the border fence area, burning tires and throwing rocks at soldiers.

"Over the past few weeks, Hamas has intensified the violence on the border after the failure of talks with Egyptian intelligence services in Cairo about reconciliation and calm and after the refusal of [Palestinian Authority] chairman Mahmoud Abbas to remove the sanctions that he imposed on the Gaza Strip", according to the JCPA's report. Some 20 Palestinians breached the border during Friday's protest. "We need to kill terrorists who want to kill us", Bennett said on Monday.

In response, Israel halted Qatari-donated fuel shipments to Gaza's power plant and warned that if the violence didn't stop there would be series consequences.

After the attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held consultations with his defense minister and military and security chiefs at army headquarters near the Gaza border.

One Israeli soldier has been killed by Hamas sniper fire in that time.

Likewise, Hamas launched boats in an effort to break through Israel's maritime blockade, but they were stopped by the IDF.
