Weinstein caresses woman during meeting hours before she says he raped her

Melissa Thompson, who has previously publicly complained of abusive behaviour by Harvey Weinstein during a 2011 business meeting in NY, gave a tape of the encounter to Sky News.

Thompson said she later met Weinstein at a nearby hotel bar where she expected to close the technology deal. After rejecting her attempt at a handshake, he is shown greeting Thompson with a hug, during which he rubs her lower back, and throughout the video he touches her on the arms and shoulders. Thompson says she was expecting to meet with the Weinstein Company's marketing team, but instead found herself in a room with just Weinstein himself.

"I think there was a combination of confidence and naivety that led me to this dynamic that we see now, watching back", she said.

"Now I see he's trying, in any way he can, to move me into that zone of comfortable then uncomfortable and confused, and vulnerable, and recognising that he's powerful and I'm not, and that I need this deal from him, and he has the power to give it to me". "It's okay, would you like to do it some more?"

"Um we'll see, a little bit", Thompson replies.

According to The Associated Press, she filed a lawsuit in June, saying that he'd raped her that night at a hotel.

Instead, Thompson says, he took her to his hotel room where he raped her.

Thompson recorded the meeting as part of the demo, and in the video obtained by Sky News, it's immediately clear that something is amiss.

As well as the civil suits, Weinstein also faces criminal charges - he has denied all allegations. He told the other staff not to interrupt them, and then locked the door. In an interview with Sky, she said he would go from "almost pulling a trigger on using" her service, and then he would put his hand under the table and up her dress.

In a statement to Sky News, Weinstein's lawyer Benjamin Brafman says that the video of Thompson's meeting with Weinstein "demonstrates that there is nothing forceful, but casual if not awkward flirting from both parties".

At the end of the video, Weinstein and Thompson arrange to meet a few hours later at the Tribeca Grand in NY.

Thompson told the outlet she had difficulty staying "on script" during her demonstration with Weinstein.

"Anything short of that is meant to make Mr. Weinstein appear inappropriate and even exploitative", Brafman continued. "It was produced by Ms Thompson to bolster her position in a civil lawsuit seeking money". They include: film actress Rose McGowan, who said Weinstein raped her in 1997 in Utah; "Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra, who said he raped her in her NY apartment in 1992; and the Norwegian actress Natassia Malthe, who said he attacked her in a London hotel room in 2008.

Claiming that the video tried to malign Weinstein for financial gain, Barfman said facts mattered.
