That seems to be the case yet again with the first report of a Galaxy Note 9 catching fire in NY, which could set of a chain of reports and claims, each of which can be true or not. While some have speculated that the Samsung Galaxy S10 could finally be the foldable phone we've all been expecting, it's unlikely that Samsung will have its expected foldable screen technology on its flagship range, and will rather launch it as a separate product line. In her lawsuit, Chung demands for unspecified damages and Galaxy Note 9 sales to be barred. This is notable, particularly considering that the new phone is the tenth edition of the Samsung Galaxy S series that debuted globally in 2010.

In a statement, Samsung claimed that no other incidents related to the Galaxy Note 9 have been reported so far and the company is already investigating the matter. She was caught alone in the elevator when the phone started burning. Soon after, she heard "a whistling and screeching sound, and she noticed thick smoke" pouring from her purse, New York Post reports based on the court papers. Samsung has been confident about the battery inside the Galaxy Note 9, which is also why the company introduced a large 4,000mAh capacity, the biggest yet for a Galaxy smartphone.

According to Chung, the phone only stopped burning when someone in the lobby grabbed the device with a cloth and placed it in a bucket of water.

The New York Post also confirmed that the woman wants Samsung to pay for all the damages including her purse and her belongings. She said the experience was "traumatic", and that Samsung should have known the phone was "defective". The latter recall was required after it was found that there were close to 100 cases of Note 7 units catching fire in the US alone, as noted by Wired. "Users do not have to worry about the batteries anymore". If Samsung's new Galaxy Note 9 suffers the same fate as Note 7, the company might have to consider discontinuing the entire line-up.
