The caretaker Punjab government has made a decision to impose Section 144 in the areas adjoining the Lahore airport to avoid any untoward incident during the arrival and likely arrest of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The interior ministry has already placed their names on the Exit Control List.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz said on Monday that the accountability process against the Sharif family was a hard time but the party stands united while facing this trouble.

Supreme Court gave the extension in Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar's references after the Accountability Court's judge Mohammad Bashir requested for the extension in today's deadline.

The father-daughter duo, who are in London tending to Nawaz s wife, Kulsoom, who is being treated for cancer and is in a coma after suffering a heart attack last month, announced July 13 as the date for their return.

The accountability court last week sentenced Sharif and Maryam respectively to 10 years and seven years of rigorous imprisonment in the Avenfield properties corruption case.

While they will not face any difficulty in coming to Pakistan, they are expected to be arrested during the immigration process at the airport as per standard procedure for all those placed on ECL. "We will make sure that Sharif and Maryam do not leave the airport and arrested there", he said. Both were also ordered to pay hefty fines, while retired captain Safdar who is now under arrest, was sentenced to one year imprisonment.

A NAB official said taking both the convicts to Islamabad from the Lahore airport by road may require "elaborate security arrangements".

With regards to Nawaz's return, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz has called on workers to reach Islamabad when the PML-N supremo returns to the country.
