Man in LA standoff arrested on murder charge

The man was treated for a gunshot injury to his left arm.

Los Angeles police said there was "an active barricaded suspect" at a Trader Joe's store in the Silver Lake area.

Gene Evin Atkins is being held on a $2 million bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday. Earlier, police had described the suspect as being in his late teens.

Meanwhile, authorities said that approximately 40 and 50 others-including children-in the store had hidden in the store's freezer, in bathrooms and in closets during the tense almost three-hour standoff.
