There was a blow for Liverpool midway through the first half when Joel Matip - who has only recently returned from injury - limped off with what looked like a thigh problem, being replaced at the heart of the defence by Joe Gomez.

Loris Karius (played entire match) - 5: nearly a "Karius calamity" in just the third minute when he played the ball straight out to a Dortmund striker, toughest save he had to make in the first half was from a van Dijk back pass, held one sharp low cross late in first half - though it nearly bobbled out, could not be blamed for the penalty miss or Pulisic's second but palmed Pulisic's shot straight to Bruun Larsen for the third.
