Saturday, May 12, is the Stamp Out Hunger food drive across the U.S.

Carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters.

If your donation is missed, take it to your local post office.

On May 12 help "Stamp Out Hunger" by participating in the Letter Carriers' Food Drive. Over 71 million pounds of food were collected to help those in need of a meal.

"This particular drive, historically, has provided 70, 80, 90,000 pounds of food", said Deem.

Microsoft May Be Building Its Own Smart Speaker
This may not seem like a powerful chip but a smart speaker doesn't need good processing power as everything is done in the cloud. Microsoft might be ready to rejoin the smart speaker wars with a new reference device made by partnering ODM Quanta.

The result was that more than 220 union branches collecting more than 11 million pounds of food - a one-day record in the United States.

According to the National Association of Letter Carriers, this is the 26th year of the event. Food collected from Monroe County residents will then be transported to HHFB.

With so much food to carry around, things get pretty heavy for the letter carriers.

"A lot of families have children who are out of school who don't have access to the free lunch programs at school", he said. The food drive really helps them with their self worth and their sense of accomplishment, Blumenthal said. All food such as this must be canned and non-perishable. "Every year, I love doing it", she said. Around this time of year, supplies are low, which is where the drive comes into the picture.
