The tactician has been out of a job since leaving Borussia Dortmund this time past year and was strongly tipped to take over at Parc des Princes in the upcoming campaign.

Thomas Tuchel has been confirmed as the new Paris Saint-Germain manager on a two-year deal replacing current manager Unai Emery. Paris Saint-Germain has hired former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel.

Despite being one of the favourites going into this season's Champions League, they succumbed to reigning champions Real Madrid at the last-16 stage - losing 5-2 on aggregate.

PSG also signed Kylian Mbappe past year, but France's hottest prospect could not help them reach the semi-finals, which was the team's goal this season.

He is taking over from a manager who led PSG to the domestic treble in France but was nevertheless released after the big spenders failed to impress in the Champions League.

However, Nice coach Lucien Favre is said to be the favourite for the Dortmund job. Stoeger's contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

Tuchel said in a statement via PSG: 'It is with great joy, pride and ambition that I join the great football club that is Paris Saint-Germain.

"I can't wait to start working with all these great players who are all among the best in the world".

Tuchel left Dortmund last year with one year left on his contract because of a strained relationship with the club's board, just after winning the German Cup. With my coaching staff, we will do everything we can to help the team reach success, including on the worldwide scene. "There is tremendous potential in Paris and this is the most exciting challenge that has come to me".

Arsenal and Chelsea had been linked with the German earlier this year.

Club President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi also projected a display of excitement, highlighting Tuchel's style of play as a key factor in bringing him to the club.
