Preds defuel Jets 2-1, tie series 2-2

I kept expecting someone to rip their Preds sweater off and reveal the New Jersey Devils circa 1996 jersey underneath.

I might as well start with the big defenceman, who had put the Jets on his shoulders by beating the Predators both physically and on the scoreboard.

Winnipeg did their best to try to mount a comeback, but the Predators staunch defence and strong goaltending allowed them to hang on.

We know the Jets can score. "I've experienced that, and it does get frustrating, as the game goes on, you get more and more frustrated".

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result, so Preds head coach Peter Laviolette chose to shake things up a bit in his lineup, replacing Kevin Fiala with Scott Hartnell on the second line.

For numerous untested Jets, Tuesday showed things can change fast in playoff hockey with Game 4 set for Thursday. I wrote this yesterday... No call was made and Rinne did not retaliate this time.

Rinne showed out all night long for the Predators and almost nearly had a shutout. It was vintage Rinne, playing within the 4x6... flashing the leather and making the key save at the key time.

Gersich played three National Hockey League games during the regular season after UND's season came to an end.

Winnipeg's survival doesn't necessarily depend on them, but some production would be most welcome. In fact, Nashville should be lucky Winnipeg only converted on one of their five power-plays.

Laine scored on a 6-on-4 advantage with 50.2 seconds left in the third - his third of the playoffs and first of the second round - but the Predators held on from there to wrestle back home-ice advantage.

Winnipeg scored seven of the next eight goals and they grabbed a 2-1 series lead.

And there was much rejoicing...

For Winnipeg, they have to be concerned about blown opportunities.

That included an improbable stop with the knob of his stick, which denied Josh Morrissey the game's first goal about midway through the first period.

While I laid out the reasons last week why I thought the Jets would win the series, I also said I expected some turbulence along the way. That is something for the Jets to hold on to... and something for Nashville to be concerned about. They are 0-4 in their last four games following a victory. You saw that when you initiate with the Jets, it has an impact. As the road team, the Predators are 27-18 SU.

The Jets are plenty good enough to do just that. It's an 8:30pm game time.

The Predators once again showed the mettle of a championship contender, bouncing back from disaster in game three to regain home ice advantage. TV coverage will be on NBC Sports Net and will begin at the conclusion of the Washington/Pittsburgh game. He motivates you every day. "I think our group has responded all year long and not for a second did we think coming into this series we were going to breeze through it".

- Scott Hartnell's presence was felt last night, especially knocking Dustin Byfuglien off his game. A total of 46 of its games have gone over the total, while 44 have gone under and just one has pushed.

"I respect him so much as a player but as a person as well".

And there was someone special in the crowd to watch the dazzling play, as Humboldt Broncos player Brayden Camrud attended the game as a guest of former Penguin Colby Armstrong.

Winnipeg center Bryan Little described his team's attempts to attack the Predators' defensive scheme as "skating into a wall". "And now we have home ice back". We're a great team.

"We've responded incredibly well all year", he said. Also. make sure to "like" SlapShot Radio on Facebook. here's the link. Give Pat and his team a call at 615-288-2086.
