The president's return was posted on Mr Buhari's official Twitter handle on Friday evening.

He added: "I have interacted with a number of my colleagues and I know there is always a penchant not to go to the public hospital, they always want to go to a private hospital".

Also, there is a doctor-patient relationship.

The health of the president is a sensitive issue in Nigeria following the death in office in 2010 of then president maru Musa Yar'Adua, which followed months of treatment overseas and sparked months of political turmoil.
