HTC Announces Plans For A Blockchain Smartphone

HTC has discovered the buzzword of the year, and decided to make a smartphone around it with their upcoming Exodus handset announcement during the Consensus 2018 blockchain conference in NY, where we recently saw a crypto-powered beer vending machine unveiled.

"The upcoming phone will come with a "universal wallet" and a built-in secure hardware system to support cryptocurrencies and decentralised applications", TheNextWeb reported late on Tuesday. What this means is that all of you cryptotraders will have no problems managing your "money" and accessing it via all sorts of avenues.

HTC is hoping that all its Exodus phones will act as nodes for facilitating blockchain transactions, including cryptocurrency exchange. If that doesn't get you Mr. Robot fanboys going, I don't know what will.

Heading HTC's blockchain experiment is Phil Chen, the creator of the Vive VR headset.

According to Chen, "Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more". "We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem", he said.

40 feared drowned as boat capsizes in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh
Proper record-keeping is rare on the many ferries that work the Godavari, making it hard to know how many people were on the boat. According to Reddy, the driver of the boat has said there are 25-26 passengers in the boat at the time of the incident.

HTC has not yet released a price tag for the Exodus, but the company did hint that it is considering accepting cryptocurrency payments once it becomes available for purchase.

After two years at Horizon Ventures, Chen returns to HTC as its new Decentralized Chief Officer heading up blockchain and cryptocurrency initiatives.

Exodus is expected in October.

In terms of specifications, the Finney blockchain phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. CryptoCurrency? Well, HTC thinks there's a lot of interest in it, so much so they're developing a blockchain friendly smartphone. It is also unknown if the device will be retailed in territories outside of the US. While the Exodus phone maintains a crypto-connection, its important to understand the basics of blockchain outside of cryptocurrencies to see how revolutionary this device could be.
