Chattabal gunfight: One militant killed

One terrorist has been killed in a gunbattle with security forces in the Chattabal area in the heart of Srinagar. The encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Srinagar this morning, police said. "He has been shifted to 92 Base Hospital", he said.

"The gunfight is still on", the official said, adding that further details were awaited. The army had deployed drones to search for the militants in the forest areas.

"Medical bulletin suggests that the person died due to a crush injury in a road traffic accident".

An Assistant Commandant (AC) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured during an encounter which ensued after a Cordon and Search operation was launched against militants in summer capital Srinagar on Saturday. "Citizens may not pay heed to rumours", a police spokesman said. "A holed-up militant is still engaged in the gunfight with the security forces", police sources told news agency IANS.

Authorities suspended internet in entire Srinagar district as soon as the gunfight broke out.
