40 feared drowned as boat capsizes in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh

Till now, 17 people have been rescued while others are still missing. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force have been pressed into action.

Local authorities said several people have believed to be missing after a boat they were travelling in capsized in the Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

Proper record-keeping is rare on the many ferries that work the Godavari, making it hard to know how many people were on the boat. Earlier reports had said that at least 10 people swam to safety.

The incident occurred near Manturu in Devipatnam block of East Godavari district around 5 p.m.
